DAB/DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting) is a method for the digital transmission of radio signals for static and mobile reception, developed by EUREKA project 147. Many countries have already implemented DAB/DAB+ services and their ultimate plan is to replace older analogue Band II FM services with DAB/DAB+. Some mobile phone manufacturers now include DAB/DAB+ radio reception in their handsets and DAB is also now being included as standard in car manufacturers radio/audio systems.
DAB/DAB+ is not yet generally available in South Africa, although tests are ongoing in selected areas. For more information, relating specifically to future use in South Africa, please visit www.worlddab.org/country-information/south-africa
